They are called Tajchs, they are pretty numerous around Banská Štiavnica from many directions. Believe it or not, they were designed and constructed in the past as massive pumps used to pump the water out of mines in 17th-18th century! They technically count as one of the world’s most unique places which are presently used as places to cool down during a hot summer day.

Ok, we mentioned that not jaw-dropping sights will be involved in this list, but here is an exception. And what AN EXCEPTION! Its name fails to describe its beauty by far. If you see it, you mind find that the name “Cave of the Stars” would fit much better. Undoubtebly the most unique place of Slovakia, and there are only three similar caves worldwide and none of them are in Europe. Its unbelievable beauty made a huge contribution  to its top ranking and to many other similar rankings. Absolute MUST SEE! The Ochtina Aragonite Cave!

I love Slovakia! Seeing these amazing places of interest is wonderful. If I could, I would spend three months there and three months here. I miss my Slovak Family in Bosaca.

  4. Very nice places! Really great list! I have to visit some of them this year! 🙂

  5. I’ve visited Brhlovce this year with my family. The houses are really beautiful. I couldn’tt believe to see something like that in Slovakia. Some of them serve even now as parts of houses, so you cannot visit them. But what made me sad was that it’s only thanks to some people (who take care of it) that we can visit them. Big THANK YOU to those people. However, they don’t have enough money to repair all of them. Thus, some of them are dangerous to visit!!! Isn’t it worth for Slovak government to protect such unique places loke this one???!!!
